If there’s one area where I’ve been challenged the most—and grown the most—it’s in learning how to love my wife like Christ loves the church. That’s not a casual kind of love. It’s not based on feelings or how the day’s going. It’s sacrificial. It’s constant. And it’s exactly what we’re called to.
Our springboard for today’s discussion is:
“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her.” — Ephesians 5:25 (ESV)
Jesus didn’t just tell us He loved us—He proved it with the cross. He gave everything: His time, His comfort, His very life. That’s the blueprint. That’s what loving our wives looks like.
Now, I know that can sound overwhelming. We’re not Jesus, right? But that doesn’t let us off the hook. Christ gave us the Holy Spirit to empower us to love like He does. And that starts by being intentional every single day.
Sometimes loving my wife like Christ means choosing to listen when I’d rather shut down. Sometimes it’s putting her needs ahead of my preferences. Sometimes it’s serving when I feel drained. And yes, sometimes it’s forgiving when I’d rather hold a grudge.
This isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being present. Being consistent. Being willing to sacrifice. Christ-like love shows up when it’s inconvenient. It leans in when the emotions aren’t there. It fights for connection when the world says give up.
Brothers, that kind of love transforms marriages. And it changes us in the process.
Question of the Day:
Are you loving your wife in a way that mirrors Christ’s sacrifice—or in a way that mirrors culture’s convenience?
Mini Call to Action:
Take one tangible step today. Serve her in a way that costs you something. Not for credit. Not for recognition. Just because that’s what Christ did for you.
Prayer:
Jesus, help me to love like You. Help me lay down my pride, my preferences, and my comfort. Shape my heart to lead through love—real, sacrificial, relentless love. Amen.
Let’s Get to Work.
This is where your leadership begins—right at home, right with her. Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Be the man she can trust, follow, and feel safe with. Love her like Jesus.
