Hey there, Tribe of Valor! Today, we’re talking about one of the most important parts of being a warrior for God—guarding your heart. Your heart is the core of who you are, and it influences everything you think, say, and do. As warriors after God’s heart, it's crucial that we protect it from things that can lead us astray. When we guard our hearts, we open ourselves up to hear God’s voice more clearly and live out His character in our daily lives.
Our springboard for today’s discussion is: Proverbs 4:23 - "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."
In Proverbs, we’re told to guard our hearts above all else. This means it’s our top priority. Why? Because everything we do—our actions, words, and thoughts—flows from our heart. If our heart is filled with good things, that’s what will come out in our lives. But if it’s filled with negativity or sin, that’s what will overflow.
Guarding our hearts means protecting ourselves from influences that can harm our spiritual health. It involves making wise choices about what we allow into our lives, whether it’s the media we consume, the people we spend time with, or the thoughts we entertain. It also means nurturing our hearts with things that help us grow closer to God, like prayer, worship, and studying His Word.
Focus Points to work on:
Monitor Your Inputs: Pay attention to what you’re letting into your heart and mind. This includes the shows you watch, the music you listen to, the books you read, and even the conversations you have. If something is negative or pulling you away from God, it’s time to cut it out. Replace it with positive, God-honoring content that builds you up.
Surround Yourself with Good Company: The people you spend time with can influence your heart. Surround yourself with friends and mentors who encourage you in your faith and challenge you to grow. If there are relationships that lead you away from God, consider how you can change those dynamics or distance yourself if necessary.
Cultivate a Habit of Reflection: Take time each day to reflect on your heart. Ask God to show you any areas where you might be straying or holding onto things that aren’t good for you. Journaling can be a great way to process your thoughts and prayers, helping you stay aware of your heart’s condition and keep it aligned with God’s will.
Conclusion: Guarding your heart is an ongoing process, but it’s one of the most important things you can do as a warrior for God. By monitoring your inputs, surrounding yourself with good company, and cultivating a habit of reflection, you can protect your heart and keep it in tune with God’s voice. This not only strengthens your relationship with Him but also impacts every other area of your life.
Call to Action: This week, pick one of the focus points and start putting it into practice. Maybe begin by monitoring your media consumption or spend more time with friends who build you up in your faith. Whatever you choose, take a concrete step towards guarding your heart.
Question of the Day: What’s one thing you’re allowing into your life that might be negatively impacting your heart, and how can you change that?
Let's Pray: Lord, thank You for giving us the wisdom to guard our hearts. Help us to protect our hearts from negative influences and to fill them with Your truth and love. Guide us in our relationships and in the choices we make each day, so we can hear Your voice clearly and live out Your character. Amen.
Alright, Tribe of Valor, it’s time to take action and guard our hearts with everything we’ve got. Let’s stay vigilant, stay connected to God, and be the warriors He’s called us to be. Let's Get To Work...
