TOV 25-157 Speaking Identity Over Your Kids

TODAY’S FOCUS IS: Calling Out Who They Are, Not Just What They Do
4

Your kids are constantly being told who they are—by friends, by the world, by social media, and sadly, sometimes by their own failures. But the loudest voice in their life should be yours. And that voice should echo heaven. As fathers, we’re not just raising children—we’re calling out destiny.

Our springboard for today’s discussion is:
“And behold, a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.’” — Matthew 3:17 (ESV)

God the Father spoke identity over Jesus before He ever performed a miracle, preached a sermon, or faced the cross. He said, “You are My Son. I love You. I’m pleased with You.”

That’s the kind of fathering our kids need from us. Not performance-based affirmation. Not identity tied to behavior. But unconditional love paired with intentional truth.

I’ve learned that my words as a dad carry serious weight. When I say, “I’m proud of you,” or “You have what it takes,” or “God has a call on your life,”—that stuff doesn’t just land... it sticks.

And it works both ways. If I’m not careful, my silence can be just as loud as my speech. If I only correct and never affirm, they’ll start to believe that love is earned.

We’ve got to get in the habit of calling out their identity before the world calls them by their mistakes.

That means blessing them with words of life. Declaring God’s truth over their gifting. Speaking to their character more than their performance.

When you speak identity over your children, you’re not just encouraging them—you’re anchoring them. And you’re giving them a taste of how their Heavenly Father sees them.

Question of the Day:
What messages are your children receiving from you—and are they rooted in heaven or in pressure?

Mini Call to Action:
Look your son or daughter in the eye today and say something bold, true, and Spirit-led about who they are in Christ. Then repeat it again tomorrow.

Prayer:
God, help me to speak words that build, not bruise. Remind me that my voice has power, and teach me to use it to declare truth, call out destiny, and reflect Your love over my children. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let’s Get to Work.
Don’t let culture define your kids. Speak up. Speak life. Speak the truth they’ll carry for the rest of their lives.
