There’s a difference between growing older and growing up—especially in the Spirit. The writer of Hebrews doesn’t hold back: some believers should be teachers by now, but they still need a bottle. Warriors, there comes a time when the training wheels need to come off. We’re not called to stay in the playpen of our faith—we’re called to battle.
Our springboard for today’s discussion is:
“Though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again... you are not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.” —Hebrews 5:12-13 (ESV)
Spiritual immaturity isn’t just about doing dumb things. It’s about dodging responsibility. It's about needing constant affirmation and never stepping into leadership. It’s the man who knows Scripture but won’t apply it. It’s the one who still needs to be spoon-fed truth instead of feeding others. Milk is fine—for babies. But you weren’t made to stay a boy in the faith. You’re called to grow, to lead, and to disciple.
God is calling His sons to become warriors. That means moving past what feels good and stepping into what is true. It means allowing the Word of God to correct, train, and equip you. It means letting go of childish things: the whining, the waiting, and the wandering—and taking up the sword of truth.
Question of the Day:
What area of your life still looks like spiritual childhood—and what step will you take today to grow up?
Let’s Pray:
Father, I don’t want to stay a spiritual boy. Grow me. Train me. Push me into maturity, even when it’s uncomfortable. I choose the meat of Your Word over the milk of convenience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
