TOV 25-051 Breaking Free: Letting Go of the Last 20%

TODAY'S FOCUS IS: Moving from Partial to Complete Surrender

4

What if I told you that the reason you feel stuck, frustrated, or spiritually exhausted isn’t because you’re failing—it’s because you’re still holding on? You’ve given God 80%, maybe even 90%, but that last 20%? That’s the part keeping you from real freedom. It’s the dreams, the comforts, the habits, the safety nets. And God is asking for it all.

Our springboard for today’s discussion is Galatians 2:20 – "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me."

Paul lays it out plainly: you’re either all in or not in at all. The life you cling to isn’t even yours anymore. Christ is waiting to live through you.

Partial surrender is an illusion. You may feel like you’re doing enough—attending church, praying, tithing—but deep down, you know there’s something you haven’t let go of. Maybe it’s a fear of what God will ask of you. Maybe it’s control. Maybe it’s a past hurt that you won’t release.

So how do we move from 80% to 100%?

  1. Identify What You're Holding Back. Ask yourself: What am I afraid to surrender? Finances? Relationships? Comfort? Security?

  2. Trust That God’s Plans Are Better. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that God’s plans are for good, not harm. Trust requires sacrifice, but His way is always higher.

  3. Take the Leap of Faith. Stop testing the waters—jump in. Peter walked on water only when he stepped out of the boat. You won’t experience God’s fullness while clinging to the dock.

You weren’t called to live 80% free. The last 20% is where true transformation happens. Will you let go?

Question of the Day: What’s the one thing God is asking you to surrender today?

Let’s Pray:
Father, I confess that I have been holding onto parts of my life that belong to You. I want to trust You completely, but fear and pride get in the way. Help me to surrender everything—not just what’s easy, but what’s hardest. Let me walk in the freedom that only full surrender brings. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
