TOV 25-048 The 80/20 Man: Are You Holding Back from God?

TODAY’S FOCUS IS: Breaking Free from Partial Surrender
5

Ever wonder why some men seem to walk in unstoppable faith while others struggle, stuck in the same cycles year after year? Could it be that most men—maybe even you—are only giving God 80% of their lives while holding back the remaining 20%?

Our springboard for today’s discussion is: Revelation 3:16 – "So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth."

Jesus isn’t interested in half-hearted commitment. He doesn’t want most of you; He wants all of you. Yet, many men live with one foot in the Kingdom and one foot in the world. We serve at church but still harbor secret sins. We trust God with our finances but refuse to surrender our careers. We raise our hands in worship but hold onto unforgiveness like a badge of honor. That’s an 80/20 faith—mostly surrendered, but not completely.

Imagine a soldier heading into battle but refusing to wear his helmet. He’s mostly protected, right? Wrong. The enemy will exploit any weak spot, and Satan is no different. That 20% you’re holding back? That’s where he will attack.

Three Steps to Break Free from 80/20 Faith:

  1. Identify what you're holding back. Ask yourself: What area of my life am I refusing to surrender?

  2. Lay it at the altar. Physically or symbolically, take that thing—whether it’s control, pride, or fear—and give it to God in prayer.

  3. Walk in obedience. Partial surrender is disobedience. Decide today to be all in, no matter the cost.

Question of the Day: What’s the one thing you’ve been afraid to fully surrender to God?

Let’s Pray: Father, I don’t want to be lukewarm. Reveal the areas I’ve held back from You. Give me the courage to surrender completely, to trust You with all of my life, not just the easy parts. I want to be fully Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
