"I see the wounds you hide." The thought of this is what I fear. I have sinned, but where in the Bible does it say the really bad sins I did WILL be forgiven? It's difficult for me to believe that God will forgive me when I don't forgive myself. How can I belive He will forgive me?

Thank you Annie...your question is deeply heartfelt and touches on the very core of God’s character—His boundless love and forgiveness. Let’s reflect on this together.

God’s Forgiveness Is Unlimited...

The Bible makes it abundantly clear that no sin is too great for God’s forgiveness. When Jesus died on the cross, He took the weight of all sin—past, present, and future. Consider these powerful scriptures:

* 1 John 1:9 (ESV): "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

* Isaiah 1:18 (ESV): "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool."

* Romans 8:1 (ESV): "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."

These verses are not conditional on the "size" of your sins. They declare the completeness of Christ’s sacrifice and the power of His love to cover every sin.

Forgiveness and Self-Forgiveness...

You mention struggling to forgive yourself. This is a common struggle, but it’s important to remember that forgiveness is a gift from God—not something you or I can earn or merit. Sometimes, the hardest person to forgive is ourselves, but God calls us to align our hearts with His truth.

* Psalm 103:12 (ESV): "As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us."

When God forgives, He completely removes our sin. Holding onto guilt can sometimes keep us from fully experiencing the freedom Christ offers.

How Can You Believe God Will Forgive You?

Trust in His Character: God's love and forgiveness are part of His very nature.

* Exodus 34:6-7 (ESV): "...a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin."

Focus on the Cross: Jesus’s death was the ultimate act of love and forgiveness. If He willingly laid down His life for you, His forgiveness is a certainty.

* Romans 5:8 (ESV): "But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Let Faith Lead: Sometimes our emotions can deceive us, making us feel unforgivable. Lean into faith, trusting what God says over what you feel.

Practical Steps to Embrace Forgiveness:

👉🏼 Confess and Release: Pour out your heart to God. Be honest about your sins and ask Him for forgiveness.

👉🏼 Immerse Yourself in Scripture: Fill your mind with verses about God’s forgiveness to counter the lies of guilt.

👉🏼 Pray for Healing: Ask God to help you release self-condemnation and embrace His grace.

Remember the Cross: Visualize your sins nailed to the cross with Jesus—they are no longer yours to carry.

A Final Encouragement...

God’s love for you is greater than your deepest fears or worst mistakes. You don’t have to earn His forgiveness; you just need to accept it. When Jesus said, "It is finished" (John 19:30), He meant it—for you, for me, for all who believe.

Take this step of faith today, and let God’s love and forgiveness transform your heart. You are His child, redeemed and dearly loved. Let go of your guilt, and trust that He has already let it go. Let’s Get to Work in embracing His grace!

Shortly getting into reading your tesponse I had a difficult time seeing the words for this is something I've been waiting to hear/see (the proof of scripture) for years. I needed to hear/read it from various scriptures too! I can't thank you enough for sending this to me(us).

After I wipped away the tears my husband was able to finally find out what was up. I shared with him my question to you, but then I also told him as to the 'why', the great sin we both knew about, but I have to live with. He fully understood my tears.

We had just recently joined with a local church a few weeks ago, of which we met with the pastor per our request before joining. We are very pleased with our pastor, but had not gotten around to discussing my deep feelings. Having this site in addition to our pastor has helped me, us, tremendously. My husband & I have been together for 37 years. This is our first time together of reading the Bible together, & with experiences such as we had today, we are both really looking forward to learning more about the Word of God. Thank you, from my heart.
