"For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him." —2 Chronicles 16:9
Brother, there’s something unique about a man whose heart is fully committed to God. The world sees him as radical, but heaven sees him as powerful. When we talk about being “wholehearted,” we’re not just talking about showing up to church or checking off a list of spiritual duties. We’re talking about total surrender—a heart that says, “God, I’m all in.”
God is searching for such men. 2 Chronicles 16:9 reminds us that God is actively looking for those whose hearts are completely His, not just to acknowledge them but to strengthen them. Imagine that—the Creator of the universe empowering you to accomplish His extraordinary purposes.
But here’s the challenge: being wholehearted isn’t easy. It requires sacrifice, focus, and courage. The question is, are you ready to let go of distractions, fears, and divided loyalties to become the man God can fully use?
The Characteristics of a Wholehearted Man
A man with a fully devoted heart doesn’t just show up; he stands out. Here’s what sets him apart:
1. Undivided Loyalty
He doesn’t waver between God and the world. His devotion is singular.
Matthew 6:24: "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other."
2. Unwavering Faith
He trusts God completely, even when life doesn’t make sense.
Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
3. Relentless Obedience
He doesn’t just listen to God’s Word; he acts on it.
James 1:22: "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."
Biblical Examples of Wholehearted Men
The Bible is full of stories of men who fully committed their hearts to God and saw Him do extraordinary things through them:
David
Though imperfect, David was a man after God’s own heart. His total trust in God allowed him to defeat Goliath and lead Israel with courage.
Psalm 9:1: "I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds."
Daniel
Even in exile, Daniel refused to compromise his faith. His wholehearted devotion led to God’s miraculous protection in the lions’ den.
Daniel 6:23: "No wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God."
Paul
Paul’s life is a testimony of radical surrender. His unwavering commitment to Christ transformed him from persecutor to pioneer of the Gospel.
Philippians 3:13-14: "Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
How to Become a Wholehearted Man
It’s not about perfection; it’s about direction. Here’s how to move toward wholehearted devotion:
1. Examine Your Heart
Ask yourself: What’s competing with God for my attention and loyalty? Confess and release those things to Him.
Psalm 139:23-24: "Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
2. Pursue God Daily
Make time for prayer, Scripture, and worship. A wholehearted man invests in his relationship with God every day.
Jeremiah 29:13: "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."
3. Step Out in Faith
Don’t wait for ideal conditions. Trust God and take bold steps of obedience.
Hebrews 11:8: "By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going."
4. Stay in Community
Surround yourself with brothers in Christ who encourage and challenge you to stay committed.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10: "Two are better than one . . . If either of them falls down, one can help the other up."
The Impact of a Wholehearted Man
When you surrender fully to God, He not only strengthens you but uses you to impact your family, community, and beyond. A wholehearted man:
Inspires His Family: He leads his wife and children with humility and faith.
Transforms His Community: His commitment to God becomes a light for others.
Advances God’s Kingdom: He boldly shares the Gospel and lives as a witness to God’s power.
Luke 10:27: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind."
Challenge of the Week
Take these steps to grow as a wholehearted man:
Identify one area of your life where God isn’t first. Surrender it to Him in prayer.
Spend 15 minutes daily this week in focused prayer and Scripture, seeking God’s guidance.
Invite accountability. Share your commitment with a brother in Christ and ask him to pray for you.
Let’s Pray
Father God,
We come before You with open hearts, asking for Your help to become men who are fully committed to You. Search our hearts and reveal anything that hinders our devotion. Strengthen us to surrender every area of our lives to You. Empower us through Your Spirit to lead boldly, love selflessly, and live courageously for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
Brothers, God is searching for wholehearted men. Let’s answer the call and give Him everything we’ve got. Let’s Get To Work!
