TOV 24-061 The Great Commission: Our Blueprint for Discipleship

TODAY'S FOCUS IS: Following God's Example
4

Dear Tribe Of Valor listeners, today we embark on a journey to the very heart of our calling as followers of Christ. Our faith is not merely a personal treasure to be held closely but a precious gift to be shared across the globe. The Great Commission, as recorded in Matthew 28:19-20, encapsulates the essence of this calling. It's a directive from Jesus Himself, not just to His first disciples but to each of us today. This command illuminates our path and purpose in the world—to make disciples of all nations, to baptize, and to teach obedience to God's commands, all while assured of Christ's presence with us always.

Today, We Anchor Ourselves in: Matthew 28:19-20 - "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

The Great Commission is a profound call to action and fellowship. It invites us to participate in God's transformative work across the earth. This mandate can be broken down into several actionable components:

  1. Go: This is a call to action. Our faith journey isn't static; it's dynamic, propelling us into the world to share the gospel.

  2. Make Disciples: Discipleship involves more than conversion. It's about nurturing a deep, lasting relationship with Christ and helping others do the same.

  3. Baptize: Baptism is a symbol of new life in Christ. It signifies the believer's death to sin and resurrection to a life led by the Holy Spirit.

  4. Teach Obedience: Our mission includes teaching others to follow Christ's commands, guiding them in the way of life that Jesus modeled for us.

  5. Assured Presence: Jesus promises His constant presence, empowering us and providing comfort as we fulfill our calling.

Full 2 Minute "Focus Training":

Engage deeply with the Great Commission through this guided exercise:

  1. Contemplation (30 seconds): Quiet your heart and mind, focusing on the presence of Christ with you at this moment.

  2. Scripture Reflection (30 seconds): Slowly read Matthew 28:19-20, absorbing the depth and breadth of this command.

  3. Personal Application (30 seconds): Consider one way you can participate in the Great Commission this week. Is it through going, making disciples, baptizing, or teaching?

  4. Prayerful Commitment (30 seconds): Ask for God’s guidance and strength to live out this calling, trusting in His promise to be with you always.

Conclusion:

The Great Commission is not just an ancient command but a living, breathing directive for our lives today. It challenges us to step beyond our comfort zones, to engage with the world in a meaningful way, and to contribute to the spiritual growth of others. Embracing this mission aligns our lives with God's purpose and promises His ever-present support.

Daily Call to Action:

This week, identify one step you can take to fulfill the Great Commission. It might be as simple as sharing your faith story with a friend, offering to pray for someone, or studying the Bible with a seeker.
