A Global Call to Prayer for the Persecuted

"When the wicked spring up like grass,
And when all the workers of iniquity flourish,
It is that they may be destroyed forever." (Psalm 92:7, ESV)

The world is watching in silence. As the global media turns its gaze elsewhere, unspeakable atrocities are unfolding in Syria—atrocities that demand our urgent attention, our voices, and most of all, our prayers.

Christians and Alawites Targeted for Extermination

The brutal reality of genocide is playing out before our eyes. Reports are emerging of mass killings of Christians and Alawites at the hands of jihadist militant groups. The objective? Intimidation and submission. In the past, we have seen the systematic persecution of Kurds, and now, the Druze are being pressured to align with terrorist forces. The ancient Christian communities of Syria, who have endured centuries of hardship, now find themselves in the crosshairs of radical jihadists.

Innocent men, women, and children are being slaughtered simply for their faith and ethnicity. The Nusra Front, an Al Qaeda-affiliated terrorist organization, openly boasts of its actions:

“We killed 1,500 or 2,000 Alawites, and kidnapped hundreds of them.”

The level of violence is unimaginable. One Alawite woman, mourning the loss of her neighbors, recounted:

“Hussam Habib, our neighbor, opened the door for them (HTS terrorists) and told them to check his home, but they murdered him in front of his wife and children.”

Jihadist Leaders Calling for Total Annihilation

The rhetoric coming from militant leaders is chilling. One commander, affiliated with the HTS (Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham), a known terrorist group, issued an order over a microphone:

“To the Mujahideen, do not leave alive any Alawite, male or female. The most respected among them will be slaughtered. The most respected Alawite woman will be slaughtered. Slaughter them all, including the children in the bed. These are pigs. Take them and throw them into the sea.”

This is not an isolated event. This is a calculated, systematic extermination of minority groups—many of whom are our Christian brothers and sisters—happening right now.

The Reality the Media Will Not Show You

While mainstream media outlets remain eerily silent, the Syrian government is complicit in covering up the scale of the atrocities. The Syrian Defense Minister has issued orders forbidding his fighters from documenting their killings, ensuring that the world remains blind to the horrors unfolding.

Meanwhile, as the new Syrian regime consolidates power, agreements are being made with the Druze and Kurds to integrate them into state security systems. But at what cost? What began as a campaign of intimidation and slaughter has now led to forced alliances and submission.

If these groups can kill other Muslims without hesitation, how much more will they do to Christians and other non-Muslims?

A Cry for Justice and Prayer

As Christians, we must not turn away. We are called to intercede for our brothers and sisters in Christ who are enduring persecution beyond what many of us can imagine. The Apostle Paul reminds us:

“Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.” (Hebrews 13:3, ESV)

The Bible is clear: Justice will come. Those who commit these evils will not escape the judgment of God. Yet, until that day, we must stand in prayer.

How You Can Pray Today:

  1. Pray for Protection – Ask the Lord to shield Christians, Alawites, and other persecuted minorities from the hands of their oppressors.

  2. Pray for Deliverance – Cry out for the Lord to intervene and bring rescue to those in captivity.

  3. Pray for Strength – Ask God to give endurance to the believers who are facing unimaginable suffering.

  4. Pray for Conviction – That the hearts of those committing these atrocities would be pierced with the weight of their sins, leading them to repentance.

  5. Pray for the Church – That the global Body of Christ would rise up in prayer, advocacy, and support for our suffering brethren.

Will You Stand in the Gap?

Church, the time for silence is over. We must be the voice for the voiceless, the defenders of the defenseless. We must bring these cries before the throne of God.

Share this message. Spread the truth. And most of all—PRAY.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18, ESV)
