Dear Faithful in Christ,
I am Joses, sometimes known as Joseph, named in the Gospel of Mark as a brother of Jesus. My life, intertwined with the life of the Messiah, has been a journey of profound wonder, deep questioning, and eventual faith.
Growing up in Nazareth, in the humble home of Mary and Joseph, I witnessed firsthand the early years of Jesus. To the outside world, our family might have seemed ordinary, yet within our walls resided a mystery that would later unravel to change the course of history. "Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?" (Mark 6:3, NIV)
In the beginning, I, like my siblings, grappled with understanding who Jesus truly was. His teachings, miracles, and the growing claims of His divinity were a source of both amazement and confusion. How could my brother, whom I had known all my life, be the promised Messiah of our people?
During His ministry, I observed from a distance, often more a spectator than a participant. The truth of His identity unfolded gradually before my eyes, challenging my beliefs and the very fabric of our family life.
It was not until after the resurrection, an event that shook the foundations of our faith and understanding, that the pieces of this divine puzzle began to fall into place. My brother, Jesus, was indeed the Son of God, the Savior prophesied in our sacred scriptures. This realization transformed my skepticism into belief, turning what was once familial affection into spiritual reverence.
In the days following Jesus’ ascension, I joined the early Church in Jerusalem, becoming an active member of this growing community of believers. The upper room experience at Pentecost, where the Holy Spirit descended upon us, was a turning point, not just for the Church, but personally for me. “They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.” (Acts 1:14, NIV)
My journey of faith is a testimony to the grace and patience of God. He took my doubts and used them to strengthen my faith, transforming me from a skeptic to a proclaimer of the Gospel truth.
To those who follow Christ today, I offer my story as encouragement. Faith often comes with questions, and belief can sometimes be a struggle. It is okay to wrestle with doubts, as long as you seek the truth with an open heart. Jesus, whom I knew as a brother, stands ready to reveal Himself as Lord and Savior to all who earnestly seek Him.
May you find inspiration in my journey from doubt to faith. Let it remind you that Christ’s love and truth are able to transform the most skeptical of hearts. Walk in faith, hold steadfast in love, and live in the grace offered through our Lord Jesus Christ.
In brotherly love and shared faith,
Joses (Joseph), brother of Jesus.
