Location: Israel
Time: Circa 30 A.D.
Primary Scripture: John 17:3 — Jesus’ definition of eternal life: "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."
John, now an elder in his years of ministry, recalls the words of Jesus, the gentle but compelling voice of his Master still echoing in his memory. He sits among a group of followers in the warmth of the evening, his voice filled with reverence and a profound sense of awe as he speaks.
From John:
I was with Him, you know, on the night He prayed for us all. He prayed for you, and for me, for all who would believe. It was His final night before the cross, and we gathered around Him, our hearts heavy, uncertain. That night, He shared with us the mystery of eternal life, a treasure far beyond the reach of the grave.
You see, to many, eternal life means a place beyond this life, a paradise where sorrow ends and joy begins. But when Jesus spoke of eternal life, He did not speak of a far-off place, or merely of life after death. He spoke of something greater, something nearer. And His words in that moment have never left me.
