A Letter of Reflection and Faith: The Journey with Moses

From the Heart of Zipporah: Wife of Moses, Witness to Wonders

Dear Beloved in Christ,

Grace and peace to you from God our Father. I am Zipporah, perhaps a less familiar figure in the grand tapestry of our faith's history, yet one who has walked closely with a man chosen by God for a monumental task. As the wife of Moses, I have had the unique privilege of being a part of a story that not only shaped the destiny of the Israelites but also foreshadowed the greater redemption brought about by our Lord Jesus Christ.

Let me share with you a part of our journey that often goes overlooked but is rich with lessons and insights. This story unfolds shortly after Moses' encounter with God at the burning bush - an experience that forever changed the course of his life and, by extension, mine and that of our children.

Upon returning from that divine meeting, Moses was a changed man, carrying within him a sense of purpose and destiny that was both awe-inspiring and terrifying. He spoke to my father, Jethro, requesting permission to return to Egypt. His words were veiled, for the full weight of his mission was a heavy secret to bear. As his partner in life, I sensed a profound shift in him, yet the complete picture of what lay ahead was still unknown to me.

We set out on this journey, a family uprooted by a call that was as mysterious as it was compelling. In my husband's hand was his staff, a simple shepherd's tool that I had seen countless times. Little did I know that it had been transformed into something far greater - a symbol of God's power and presence.

The journey was not without its challenges and moments of deep uncertainty. One such instance, shrouded in mystery and often debated among scholars, involved a strange and terrifying encounter with the Lord (Exodus 4:24-26). It was a moment that revealed both the severity and the mercy of God, a reminder that the call upon Moses was not to be taken lightly.

In that critical moment, it became clear to me that our family was part of a divine plan that required obedience and reverence. My actions, though born out of desperation, were guided by a sudden understanding that God's covenant with His people was a sacred and binding commitment. It was a sobering realization that the God who called my husband was a God of both promises and demands.

As we continued towards Egypt, I watched Moses grow into his calling. The once reluctant shepherd became a leader, a prophet, a deliverer. Through him, God displayed mighty signs and wonders - the staff in his hand turned into a serpent, the Nile turned to blood, and the series of plagues that eventually led Pharaoh to release the Israelites.

In all this, I saw the hand of a God who is both powerful and personal. A God who hears the cries of His people and acts on their behalf. A God who uses the unlikely and the unassuming to bring about His purposes.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, our journey with God is often marked by moments of uncertainty, fear, and awe. Like Moses, we may feel ill-equipped and reluctant. Yet, God in His wisdom sees beyond our limitations and calls us to be part of His redemptive work in the world.

Let us, therefore, take heart and draw encouragement from these stories of old. Let us be reminded that the God of Moses is the same God we serve today - a God who is capable of turning our simple 'staffs' into instruments of His glory.

May we be willing to follow Him, even when the path is unclear, trusting that He who calls us is faithful. And may we find comfort in knowing that, in Christ, we have seen the ultimate expression of God's love and redemption for all humanity.

In closing, I encourage you to hold fast to your faith, to serve the Lord with reverence and joy, and to be ever mindful of His presence in your life. For in Him, we find our true purpose, our greatest adventure, and our eternal hope.

With love and blessings,

Zippah, A Witness to Wonders
