To Those Who Wait on the Lord,
You may know me as king. Some sing songs of my victories, others recall the psalms I’ve written in anguish and in praise. But before I wore the crown, before I held the scepter of Israel, I walked a much harder road. A road of exile, confusion, and often, shame. It was during that time—before I became king—that the Lord did His deepest work in me.
I’ve thought often about the man who came before me—King Saul. He, too, was chosen. He, too, was anointed. But I believe his downfall was not just disobedience—it was a heart untrained by hardship. Saul was thrust into leadership without time to learn what it meant to follow God in every circumstance. Power without humility is a dangerous gift.
But God, in His mercy, did not allow me to rise quickly. He led me through the wilderness.
