A Letter from Bezalel to the Followers of Jesus Christ

The Significance of the Tabernacle and Lessons for Today

Dear Believers in Christ,

My name is Bezalel, son of Uri, of the tribe of Judah. I am writing to you about a significant aspect of our shared history, one that resonates with profound lessons for all followers of Christ. You might recognize my name from the book of Exodus. I was chosen by God to oversee the construction of the Tabernacle and its furnishings, a task that embodied more than just architectural prowess; it was a divine symbol of God's presence and a precursor to the spiritual truths revealed in Christ.

First, allow me to address a common curiosity: how did former slaves acquire the resources for such a grand endeavor? When the Israelites left Egypt, they carried with them not just their freedom but also valuables "plundered" from the Egyptians (Exodus 12:36). This was God’s providence, turning what was meant for harm into a blessing.

Now, the heart of the matter: Why is the Tabernacle so important, and what relevance does it hold for you today? The Tabernacle was not just a physical structure; it was a visual sermon, a tangible representation of God’s dwelling among His people. Its design and every detail were dictated by God, emphasizing the importance of following His instructions explicitly. In building it, I learned that obedience to God’s word is not about legalism but about honoring His sovereignty and understanding His heart.

The Tabernacle comprised three main sections: The Outer Court, The Holy Place, and The Most Holy Place. Each area held deep spiritual significance. The Outer Court, accessible to all Israelites, symbolized the world. The Holy Place, where priests ministered daily, represented the church, the body of believers. The Most Holy Place, where God's presence resided, was a picture of heaven, accessible once a year only by the high priest, signifying Christ as our mediator.

Crafting each piece - from the Ark of the Covenant, the Table of Shewbread to the Altar of Incense - I was constantly reminded of God’s holiness and the need for atonement and communion. This is vividly seen in Jesus Christ, who embodies all these elements - our High Priest, the Bread of Life, the final Sacrifice.

The Tabernacle also teaches us about God’s desire to dwell among His people. In John 1:14, it is written, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us." Jesus is the true Tabernacle, God in flesh, dwelling among humanity, offering a way to the Father.

Moreover, the New Testament reveals that believers are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). Just as the Tabernacle was constructed with the utmost care and precision, so should our lives be a fitting dwelling for God’s Spirit - built on obedience, love, and holiness.

What does this mean for you? It serves as a reminder that your faith is not just a personal journey but a calling to reflect God's glory. In every action, word, and thought, you are to manifest the presence of God in this world. The way you live your life should be as intentional and dedicated as the construction of the Tabernacle.

Let the story of the Tabernacle inspire you to build your life and faith on the solid foundation of God’s Word. Embrace the role of being a living sanctuary where God’s Spirit resides. In your interactions, let others see and feel the presence of God. Just as the Tabernacle was a beacon of hope and a symbol of God’s faithfulness to the Israelites, so should your life be a testament to the world of the grace and truth found in Christ Jesus.

As you walk your faith journey, remember the lessons from the Tabernacle. Let it remind you of God’s desire to dwell within you, His call to holiness, and the profound significance of Christ’s sacrifice. May your life be a living epistle, reflecting the glory and presence of God in a world in need of His love and grace.

In Christ’s service,

Bezalel, Son of Uri, Builder of the Tabernacle
