23-289 A Heart Ready to Hear: Tuning into God’s Voice with Surrendered Ears and Spirit

"I [Paul] pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit." - EPHESIANS 3:16

Hello, spiritual warriors! I am Matthew Adams, and I invite you on this podcast journey, where we explore the beautiful and sometimes mysterious journey of listening to God's voice. Today, we will delve into how we, as His children and warriors, can genuinely listen, hear, and act upon the divine words that God whispers into our lives.

Scripture

"Samuel replied, 'Speak, your servant is listening.’" - 1 SAMUEL 3:10

Imagine being Samuel, a young boy, hearing a voice in the stillness of night. Unsure, yet ready, he finally responds, "Speak, your servant is listening." His response was not just words; it was a pledge, a readiness to act upon whatever was spoken to him next. His eager heart and prepared spirit provide a vital lesson for all of us today on how to truly listen to God's voice.

Driving Points

  1. Open Ears and Open Heart:

Samuel didn’t just hear; he listened. That means, like him, we should approach God with open ears and an equally open heart. It's about more than just hearing words; it's about being ready to accept and act upon whatever God tells us. Even if His words surprise us or challenge us, our hearts should be open and ready to embrace His message fully.

  2. A Willingness to Embrace the Unexpected:

We often have ideas about what we want God to say or do in our lives. But Samuel teaches us the importance of being ready to embrace the unexpected, to welcome whatever message God has for us, even if it doesn’t match our own desires or plans. Listening to God means giving Him space to surprise us and being willing to follow even when He leads us in unexpected directions.

  3. Commitment Before Information:

Samuel was ready to act even before he heard God’s message. This tells us that our commitment to follow God should come before we know what He’s going to ask of us. Our trust in Him should be so complete that we are ready to say "yes" even before we know the question. It is in this pre-committed state that we can hear God most clearly, for our own desires are not clouding our perception.

Conclusion

Listening to God, truly hearing His voice, means more than just waiting for words. It means approaching Him with a heart and spirit that are fully surrendered, ready to act, and willing to embrace whatever He speaks into our lives. It’s in this posture of complete surrender and eagerness that we can truly understand and live out the divine messages He imparts to us.

Call to Action

Dear fellow travelers, let us all aspire to be like Samuel, to approach our Lord with not just open ears, but with hearts and spirits that are ready and willing to embrace and act upon His divine messages, whether they be expected or utterly surprising.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, align our hearts with a readiness and unshakable commitment to fully embrace Your divine voice. May our spirits echo the willingness of Samuel, saying, “Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening,” with true openness and pre-committed action to whatever Your words may lead us. Amen.

Thank you, spiritual warriors, for walking this path with me, Matthew Adams. As we continue our adventures together, may we all strive to embody a spirit of true, ready, and willing listenership to our Lord, becoming instruments of His divine will in our journey. Until next time, may your heart be ever ready to hear His divine whisper.
