When God Interrupts: Are You Ready to Answer?
Stop Using “Too Busy” as an Excuse to Miss Your Calling
“Look carefully then how you walk...making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” —Ephesians 5:15-16
Brother, let’s cut through the noise. Life is busy—we all know it. There’s work to be done, bills to pay, kids to raise, goals to meet. The list is endless. And yet, in the middle of the chaos, God places sacred opportunities in our path. These aren’t random moments; they’re divinely appointed. Opportunities to listen to someone who’s struggling, to serve someone in need, to share your faith boldly, to step into someone’s pain with the hope of Christ.
What’s our typical response? “Too busy, right now.” We might say it out loud, but more often, we say it to ourselves, shrug it off, and just keep moving. Maybe we even promise ourselves we’ll “make up for it later.” But deep down, we know the truth: later rarely comes. The result? Those sacred opportunities pass us by, and the purpose God intended for us in that moment goes unfulfilled.
Brother, it’s time to stop rationalizing. God knows you’re busy. He’s not blind to the demands on your time. But He still calls you. Why? Because the urgency of His call outweighs the urgency of your schedule. He knows what He’s doing, even when it feels inconvenient to us.
God Calls Busy Men
Let’s look at the men Jesus called to follow Him.
Simon and Andrew were busy fishing when Jesus called them to become “fishers of men” (Mark 1:16-18).
James and John were busy mending nets when Jesus called them to leave everything behind and follow Him (Mark 1:19-20).
Levi was busy collecting taxes when Jesus said, “Follow me” (Mark 2:14).
These weren’t men with free time on their hands. They had work to do, responsibilities to fulfill. But Jesus didn’t wait for them to finish their tasks or clear their schedules. He interrupted their lives, and they responded. They left what they were doing because they understood that the opportunity to follow Jesus was worth everything.
What about you, brother? What are you holding onto that’s keeping you from stepping into God’s call? Is it your work, your comfort, your plans? Whatever it is, it’s time to loosen your grip. God isn’t asking for what’s convenient—He’s asking for your obedience.
Why Sacred Opportunities Matter
Here’s the thing: sacred opportunities don’t come by chance. Every one of them is placed in your path by God Himself. He knows your time is limited, but He also knows the eternal value of these moments. John 9:4 reminds us of the urgency: “We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.”
The time to act is now. The time to serve, to love, to share, to sacrifice—it’s now. The enemy wants you to believe you can push these opportunities to tomorrow, but God knows you’re not promised tomorrow. Proverbs 27:1 warns, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”
When you say, “I’m too busy,” you’re not just delaying a task—you’re walking away from a divine appointment. And let’s be real: if you’re too busy for God’s call, then you’re too busy, period.
What’s Holding You Back?
Take a moment to reflect:
When was the last time you recognized a sacred opportunity but ignored it?
What was your excuse? Work? Exhaustion? Fear?
How did it feel afterward, knowing you missed that moment?
Brother, it’s time to stop letting busyness control your life. It’s time to stop saying, “later.” It’s time to start saying, “yes.”
What to Do When God Interrupts
Recognize the Opportunity
Pay attention to the people and situations God places in your path. Is there someone who needs encouragement? Someone who needs help? Someone who needs to hear about Jesus? Sacred opportunities often look ordinary at first glance—don’t miss them.Make the Hard Choice
When God calls, it’s rarely convenient. Obedience often means putting aside your plans, your comfort, and your priorities. Remember, the disciples left everything to follow Jesus. You may not be called to leave your job or your family, but you are called to put God first.Trust God with the Outcome
Stepping into sacred opportunities can feel risky. What if you don’t have the right words? What if you fail? Brother, it’s not about your ability—it’s about your availability. 2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Trust God to work through you.Commit to Action
Make a decision today. The next time a sacred opportunity comes, step into it. Don’t delay, don’t rationalize, don’t push it to “later.” Take that moment and make the most of it.
Your Challenge: Step Into the Call
Brother, God is placing sacred opportunities in front of you every day. The question is, are you willing to let go of “too busy” and step into His call?
The next time God interrupts your plans, remember Simon, Andrew, James, John, and Levi. Remember that their willingness to drop everything changed not only their lives but the course of history. Your obedience can have the same impact.
Reflection Questions:
What sacred opportunity have you missed recently, and why?
How can you prepare your heart to say “yes” the next time God calls?
Who can you share this challenge with to hold you accountable?
