What Do We Know?
"...show me a sign that it is you who speak with me." —Judges 6:17
Brother, how many times have you heard—or maybe even said yourself—"That was God," or "I felt God nudging me"? But let’s be real for a moment: How do we actually know it’s God speaking to us? The truth is, we can’t always be 100% certain. God’s ways have a touch of mystery to them. Sometimes, we just know deep down, and that sense of knowing is enough. But other times, the lines get blurry, and we find ourselves asking, “Was that really You, God, or just my own thoughts?”
In those moments, it’s crucial to recognize His voice. God’s voice is unique—whether it’s His still, small whisper or through the words of others. And the good news is, we can learn to identify it. How? By diving into Scripture. The Bible is our primary guide, the foundation against which we can test everything we think we hear.
So, when you’re trying to discern God’s voice in any situation, ask yourself: Does this line up with the principles in Scripture? That’s the key. God’s voice will never contradict or add to His Word; it will always align with it.
So, what’s the next step?
Are you spending enough time in the Word, brother? Do you have a regular reading plan? If not, start one today. Do it with a few friends. The more you know Him through Scripture, the more you’ll recognize His voice in every other area of your life.
Let’s get serious about this. Share your thoughts or your reading plans in the comments below, and let’s encourage each other to dig deeper into God’s Word.
Your brother in Christ,
Matthew Adams
