TOV 25-147 Living as One Flesh

TODAY’S FOCUS IS: Fighting for Unity in a Divided World

Marriage was never designed to be two people living parallel lives under one roof. God’s plan has always been deeper than that—He called us to become one flesh. That’s not just poetic language. It’s spiritual, emotional, physical, and covenantal. And it takes work.

Our springboard for today’s discussion is:
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” — Genesis 2:24 (ESV)

I’ll be honest—becoming “one” doesn’t happen on the wedding day. It begins there, but it’s forged over time. It’s the result of constant pursuit, communication, humility, and intentional connection.

God didn’t say we’re “stuck together”—He said we are to become one. That’s a process. A spiritual fusion. And the enemy knows that if he can divide you—emotionally, spiritually, physically—he can weaken your marriage at its foundation.

Being one flesh means more than sharing a bank account or a bed. It means you’re connected in vision, in direction, in purpose. It means decisions aren’t made in isolation. It means your wins are shared, your losses are carried together, and your future is prayed over in unity.

The challenge? Unity doesn’t happen by accident. It takes humility to prioritize unity over your own preferences. It means dying to “me” and fully embracing “we.”

I’ve learned that when my wife and I drift apart, it’s rarely because of some big blow-up. It’s usually the little distractions, unchecked busyness, or unspoken frustrations that slowly create space between us.

That’s why I’ve had to get proactive about pursuing oneness. Carving out intentional time. Speaking with clarity. Leading with spiritual alignment.

And when unity is your aim, your home becomes unshakable.

Question of the Day:
Are you living with your wife... or becoming one with her?

Mini Call to Action:
Do a unity check. Is there a major decision, unspoken concern, or lingering disconnect you need to bring into the light? Go first. Bridge the gap.

Prayer:
Father, You joined us together—now help us become one. Teach me to pursue unity with my wife in every area. Help me lead our home with humility, truth, and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let’s Get to Work.
Oneness isn’t automatic. It’s earned daily through intentional love and selfless leadership. So fight for it. Lay your life down for it.
