"And we all...are being transformed...from one degree of glory to another." —2 Corinthians 3:18
Brother, I want to talk directly to you about a pattern that defines the lives of men trying to follow Jesus: sin, confession, repentance, and change. This cycle is our journey towards transformation. It’s how we become more like Jesus, step by step. As you go through this cycle, remember that it’s an upward spiral—moving you closer to His character and keeping you from being trapped in a downward spiral of sin.
When you surrender your life to Jesus, the Holy Spirit guides you in this upward journey. But if you hold too tightly to your old ways, you might find yourself slipping downward. It might not be apparent at first, but eventually, unchecked patterns can lead to anger, anxiety, and isolation. But here’s the good news: it’s never too late to offer your life back to Jesus and start anew. Remember the thief on the cross, who began his transformation just moments before his death (Luke 23:40-43).
Now, let’s get real. Can you speed up your transformation? Can you hit the throttle and accelerate your upward spiral? Absolutely. The Holy Spirit does most of the work through His grace, but you can match your obedience with His grace to accelerate your transformation and impact your community.
So, what’s your move?
Step into a community with other men. Find a group where you can be real and confess honestly. Encourage each other to turn away from sin and challenge wrong beliefs about yourself and God. Pray with expectation for change. Commit to these actions, and watch how quickly God transforms your life.
Now it’s time for action. Share your thoughts below, and let’s encourage each other on this journey.
Your brother in Christ,
Matthew Adams
My new church has an active men’s group meeting Thursday morning. The leader has put me in charge for the next 6 week’s while he is OS. They are a great group of men and I will do a study of Revelation. As usual, this book sorts people out very quickly. V1 with twin reference to slaves normally stops the show for a while.
