Right Here. Right Now. That’s Your Mission Field.
“You are the light of the world.” —Matthew 5:14 (ESV)
Let me shoot straight with you—if you're looking for a big sign to confirm whether you’re in the right place, here it is:
You’re there.
That’s the sign.
God doesn’t lose track of His people.
He knows exactly where you are—your job, your city, your relationships. Nothing about your location is accidental. Jesus Himself said not even a sparrow falls without the Father knowing (Luke 12:6-7). And Paul reminds us that God dwells in us (1 Corinthians 3:16). That means His presence travels with you, in you, and through you.
You’re on assignment.
David once put it this way: “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 139:16). Translation? God’s not scrambling. He’s strategic.
So if you're wondering if you’re in the right place—the job, the city, the season—the answer is yes. At least until He says otherwise. And until that update comes?
Be His light.
That’s not a cliché. It’s a command.
Jesus didn’t say “try to be light.”
He said, “You are the light of the world.” Period. (Matthew 5:14)
👉🏼 But here's the rub: light only works when it’s distinct from the darkness around it.
👉🏼 You can't blend in and shine at the same time.
👉🏼 You can't reflect culture and reflect Christ.
And brother, I get it—it's easy to absorb the unspoken rules of the environment. What success looks like. How people act. What’s okay to laugh at. What’s okay to ignore.
But if we don’t watch it, we start dimming down just to keep the peace.
That’s not what we’re called to.
We don’t take on the code of the world—we carry the code of the King.
And that means sometimes we’ll stand out.
Sometimes we’ll get weird looks.
Sometimes we’ll feel the tension.
Good. That means the light is working.
So here’s what I want you to do today:
Take a real inventory. What are the top 2 or 3 unspoken values of your workplace? Your career field? Your city?
Be brutally honest. What’s applauded? What’s accepted? What’s expected? Now ask: How does that stack up against what Jesus teaches? Where do you see alignment—and where is the tension?
And here’s the real kicker—where have you gone quiet when you were meant to shine?
You don’t need a pulpit to preach.
You don’t need a microphone to minister.
You’ve got a platform—right where your feet are.
So light it up, brother.
Right here. Right now.
Your brother in the fight,
Matthew
