Warriors, listen up. This is critical. We live in a world that tells us our worth is measured by how hard we push, how late we stay up, how many hours we grind. But let me tell you something: that’s a lie. Our physical bodies matter—because through them, people see God. They’re the vessels of our spiritual selves, the homes of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16-17). And while these bodies are temporary, what we do with them has eternal consequences. Spiritual discipline is vital, but physical discipline isn’t optional either (1 Timothy 4:7-8).
The world screams at us to prioritize our jobs above everything else. “Outperform!” “Get ahead!” “Man up!” But at what cost? We sacrifice our health, our relationships, and especially our sleep. We burn the midnight oil, thinking it makes us stronger. But God says otherwise:
"It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep." —Psalm 127:2
God intends for His sons to get sleep—real, restorative sleep. It’s not just a break; it’s a blessing, a divine reset button. Sleep heals. Sleep restores. Sleep is an act of trust, a way of saying, “God, I’m leaving this in Your hands.” When we skip it, we pay the price: racing hearts, pounding headaches, foggy minds, irritability, and weakened defenses against temptation. We can’t be the husbands, fathers, leaders, or men of God we’re called to be when we’re running on fumes.
So, what do we do?
Fight for your sleep. Don’t just treat it like an afterthought. It’s essential. How much sleep do you need? Now, how much are you actually getting? If the answer isn’t enough, then something has to change—now. This isn’t just about surviving; it’s about thriving in the purpose God has for you.
It’s time to act. Share your struggles and victories with sleep in the comments below. Let’s hold each other accountable and reclaim what God has given us.
Your brother in Christ,
Matthew Adams
Wisest words ever written for without adequate sleep the enemy will use our weakened condition to deceive us in every way, and our lives will be utterly lost. Be still and know God. Rest and refresh in the Spirit of the Almighty.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 ESV
