Dear Believer,
My name is Sarah, and it is with a humble heart that I share my life story with you. Born in the ancient city of Ur in Mesopotamia, I was raised in a time of great cultural and spiritual evolution. My early life was filled with the challenges of navigating an ever-changing world and finding my own path within it. I am honored to share my journey with you, as I believe it is a testimony of faith and perseverance that may provide solace and inspiration.
As a young girl, my family was of modest means. My father, Terah, was a merchant, and I was one of three siblings. I was known as Sarai then, and I had a loving family that taught me the importance of integrity and kindness. My childhood was filled with the warmth of familial bonds, but it was also a time of great personal struggle. I was unable to bear children, and in our society, this was considered a great burden. I felt the weight of this responsibility keenly, but I held onto my faith and never let it define me.
My life took a dramatic turn when my husband, Abram, received a divine calling from God. God asked Abram to leave our homeland, promising to make of him a great nation and to bless those who blessed him. With unwavering faith, Abram, our nephew Lot, and I embarked on a journey that would shape the course of history. We left our home, our family, and everything we knew to follow God's command.
Our journey took us to Canaan, a land promised to us by God. We faced many challenges and obstacles in our new life, including a famine that forced us to seek refuge in Egypt. In Egypt, fearing for Abram's life due to my beauty, I made a difficult decision to pose as Abram's sister. Despite the deception, God protected us, and we were eventually able to return to Canaan.
It was in Canaan that God made a covenant with Abram, changing his name to Abraham and mine to Sarah. God promised Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky, and although we were both advanced in age, He assured us that we would have a son. I struggled with this promise, for I had long accepted my barrenness. In an effort to fulfill God's promise, I offered my maidservant Hagar to Abraham, and she bore him a son named Ishmael.
As the years passed, I continued to doubt God's promise, but He remained faithful. At the age of 90, I miraculously conceived a child. I cannot describe the joy and gratitude I felt when I gave birth to our son, Isaac. Through Isaac, God's promise to Abraham was fulfilled, and our faith in His divine plan was rewarded.
In the twilight of my life, I reflect on the journey I have taken, from a young girl in Ur to the wife of Abraham and mother of Isaac. My life has been filled with trials, but through it all, I have remained steadfast in my faith. I have learned that with God, all things are possible and that He is always with us, even in our darkest moments. I pray that my story will serve as a testament to the power of faith and the boundless love of God.
Yours sincerely,
Sarah
