My Name Is Rahab...
I was a Canaanite woman living in Jericho, known in the Bible as a prostitute
Dear Fellow Believers,
My name is Rahab, and my story is an unlikely testament to God's mercy, grace, and transformative power. I was a Canaanite woman living in Jericho, known in the Bible as a prostitute. Yet, despite my questionable past and status, I found favor with God and became part of the lineage of Christ, proving that His mercy and love extend to all who choose to believe in Him.
In the time of Joshua, as the Israelites prepared to conquer Jericho, two spies were sent into the city. They found refuge in my home, which was part of the city wall. When the king of Jericho sought them out, I had a choice to make. I chose to hide the spies and lied to the king's men, telling them the spies had already left the city.
Why did I make such a risky decision, you might ask? I had heard about the God of the Israelites - how He had delivered them from Egypt and led them through the Red Sea. I believed that this God was the one true God of heaven and earth, and in that belief, I found the courage to protect His people, even at the risk of my own life.
In return for my help, the spies promised to spare my family and me when the Israelites attacked Jericho. I let them down from my window with a scarlet cord, which I was to leave there as a sign of our agreement. True to their word, when the walls of Jericho fell, my house was spared, and my family and I were saved.
My story did not end there. I left my past behind, joined the Israelites, and became an ancestor of King David and, ultimately, of Jesus Christ. From a harlot in Jericho to an ancestor of the Messiah, my life was transformed by faith in the God of Israel.
My story is a testament to God's boundless mercy and grace. It shows that no matter who you are or what you have done, God is ready to receive you if you turn to Him in faith. I encourage you, dear believers, to embrace the transformative power of faith, to trust in God's promises, and to always remember that His mercy knows no bounds.
With a heart full of gratitude,
Rahab
