My Name Is Moses...
Moses, Servant of the Lord, Leader of Israel, and Witness to God’s Glory
Dear Descendants of Faith,
I am Moses, once a child hidden among the reeds of the Nile, a prince of Egypt, a fugitive in Midian, a shepherd on Horeb, and by God's call, a leader of Israel through its exodus from bondage to the brink of the Promised Land. In this letter, I share with you the journey of my life, a testament to the enduring patience and transformative power of our God.
My story begins in Egypt, where my people, the Israelites, were subjected to harsh slavery under Pharaoh. At my birth, fearing an edict from Pharaoh to kill all Hebrew male infants, my mother hid me for three months. When she could conceal me no longer, she placed me in a basket and set me among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. By divine providence, I was discovered by Pharaoh’s daughter, who took pity on me and raised me as her own son. "She named him Moses, saying, 'I drew him out of the water.'" (Exodus 2:10, NIV).
