My Name Is Miriam...
Miriam, Prophetess, Sister of Moses and Aaron, a Witness to God’s Glory and Grace
Dear Faithful Ones,
I am Miriam, sister to Moses and Aaron, and a servant of the Lord who has walked through the expanse of deserts and the corridors of power in Egypt. Through this letter, I share with you my journey—a testament to the strength and resolve God bestows upon His chosen, and a reflection upon His faithful guidance and sometimes stern correction.
Born into the affliction of the Israelites in Egypt, my early life was cast under the shadow of Pharaoh’s oppressive decree to kill all newborn Hebrew boys. It was during this dark period that my brother Moses was born, and I, just a young girl, was thrust into a role that would mark the beginning of my lifelong commitment to my people and to God’s purposes. Watching over the little basket among the reeds of the Nile, I orchestrated his rescue by Pharaoh’s daughter and suggested my own mother as his wet nurse, thus ensuring his survival and upbringing as a prince of Egypt. “His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him” (Exodus 2:4, NIV).
