My Name Is Japheth...
Son of Noah, Witness of the Flood, and Ancestor of Nations
Dear Faithful throughout the Ages,
As I reflect on the events of my life, recounted in your sacred texts and passed down through generations, my heart is stirred with a blend of awe and humility. I am Japheth, the elder son of Noah, and I write to you from a time long past but whose echoes still resonate in the lessons it imparts to us about obedience, deliverance, and the unfolding of God’s covenantal promises.
My early life was marked by the gradual decay of the world around us. The earth was corrupt before God and filled with violence. In this setting, my father, Noah, a righteous man, blameless among his contemporaries, received a divine commission that would not only preserve our family but also every kind of living creature from the impending divine judgment. "Noah did everything just as God commanded him" (Genesis 6:22, NIV). His faithful adherence to God’s commands during this time was our family's guiding light, a beacon of hope amidst the growing darkness of human depravity.
