Dear Brethren in Faith,
I am Eglon, once king of Moab, whose reign and ultimate demise are chronicled in the scriptures as a stark reminder of God’s judgment and the deliverance He orchestrates for His people. As you reflect on the truths found within my story, may it serve as both a warning and an encouragement about the justice and mercy of our God.
My ascent to power was marked by conquest and alliance. Seizing control of the City of Palms, I imposed my rule over the Israelites, subjecting them to eighteen years of oppression. This was a time when Israel had turned away from the Lord, and their disobedience opened the door for my dominion as an instrument of divine retribution. “And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done what was evil in the sight of the Lord” (Judges 3:12, ESV).
