Master the Art of Perseverance: Stop Making Excuses
It's Time to Train Like Your Life Depends on It
"Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." —1 Peter 5:8
Listen up, brother—perseverance is not optional. If you’re serious about following Jesus Christ, it’s time to stop talking and start training. The world is going to throw everything it has at you—temptations, trials, distractions, and delays—and if you’re not prepared, you’re going to get knocked down. Hard. Perseverance isn’t just a nice skill to have, it’s essential. Jesus showed us how to endure, how to stand firm when everything is pushing against you. He did it in the wilderness, He did it against temptation, and He calls you to do the same (Matthew 4:1-11).
But let me be real with you—this isn’t just a one-time battle. It’s every day, until your last breath. The enemy isn’t taking a day off, and neither can you. There’s always something lurking, waiting to take you out, whether it’s a crisis at work, a relationship blow-up, financial stress, or a health scare. If you’re not ready, these things will wreck you. They’ll drag you into fear, anxiety, anger, bitterness, and even isolation.
And that’s not all. When you’re unprepared, the enemy whispers lies right into your ear:
“You won’t make it.”
“This is too much for you.”
“You’re alone—forgotten.”
“You’re not strong enough to push through.”
“Just give up now. Save yourself the pain.”
But let me tell you something right now—those are lies straight from hell.
So what do we do?
Perseverance isn’t something you’re born with—it’s something you train for. Just like building muscle, you have to push yourself to grow. You want more perseverance? Then start pushing your limits. Stop coasting through life, avoiding discomfort. It’s time to put in the work.
Physically: Take on a challenge that’s going to stretch you. Climb that mountain. Hike for miles. Do something that pushes your body beyond what it’s used to.
Mentally: Train your mind to withstand pressure. Fast for days. Turn off your devices and sit in silence. Force yourself to embrace the discomfort and come face to face with your weaknesses.
Spiritually: Get serious about your walk with God. Stop making excuses. Dive into prayer, fast, and shut out the noise of the world. It’s time to see what you’re made of.
God designed you to persevere. You’ve got what it takes, but you need to expose the lies of the enemy for what they are. Train hard, and you’ll learn just how strong God made you.
So, what’s your next move? No more excuses. Start training. Pick a challenge—physically, mentally, spiritually—and let’s see how far you can push yourself. Share your plan in the comments below, and let’s hold each other accountable.
Your brother in Christ,
