The sea was restless today.
We had reached the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee by midday, our path winding past rocky hills and through the small fishing villages that dotted the region. Capernaum was close now, just beyond the next ridge, and for the first time in weeks, I felt as though we were closing in on our goal.
And yet, as I guided my horse down the narrow path, I could feel it slipping away.
Jonah had sensed it, too. He was unusually quiet as he rode beside me, his gaze scanning the water, the docks, the boats swaying in the distance. He had been asking questions in every village we passed through, stopping at markets, speaking to fishermen and merchants, piecing together the trail we were following.
