The moment I was summoned to the prefect’s office, I knew something was wrong. It wasn’t the timing—Varro often called me in for updates—but it was the sinking feeling in my gut that told me this wasn’t going to be a routine meeting. There was a tightness in my chest as I made my way through the barracks, every step heavier than the last. Something had changed.
When I arrived at the door, I paused for just a moment, steeling myself before entering. I pushed it open, and there he was—Cassius. Standing tall, his armor polished to perfection, but there was a smugness in his eyes I hadn’t seen before. And standing next to him, much to my shock and dismay, was Jonah.
