It’s been a week since we arrived at my mother’s house, and I’ve spent every day keeping a watchful eye on Jonah and Leah, making sure they’re safe and well cared for. I could have left sooner, but something in my gut told me to stay a little longer, just to be sure. The roads are more dangerous than ever, and it feels like a storm is gathering. I couldn’t leave them without knowing for certain that everything was secure.
The house has been quiet, much quieter than I’m used to, but that quiet has given me time to think. Time to reflect on what’s ahead. Time to listen to my mother’s words, which seem to carry more weight than they did the last time I was here.
