It’s becoming clear to me that if I’m to understand what’s truly happening in Judea, I need eyes and ears among the people—someone who can move quietly through the streets, listen to the whispers, and bring me information I wouldn’t otherwise hear. The tension in the air is growing thicker by the day, and I can’t rely solely on the reports we receive from the local authorities. They’re too focused on maintaining their own fragile grip on power, too distant from the undercurrents of unrest that seem to be building beneath the surface.
I’ve decided I need a spy. Someone who knows this land better than I do, someone the people trust. I’m not talking about a soldier or a Roman sympathizer. No, that would be too obvious. The locals are too sharp for that. I need someone who blends in with the common folk, someone who can move through the markets and taverns without raising suspicion.
