God Speaks: Are You Listening?
In the illuminating words of A. W. Tozer, "It is the nature of God to speak." This truth stands firm not only in the sacred pages of Scripture but throughout the entirety of human history. The Bible itself, a testament of God's dialogues, from Genesis to Revelation, shows us that God is not a silent observer. He guides, instructs, corrects, inspires, encourages, reveals, and does so much more. He is indeed the Word, always engaging, always speaking to those who are willing to listen.
Yet, there are voices, sometimes even influential ones, that doubt this profound truth. I recall a notable pastor openly dismissing the notion that we can hear God's voice today. This skepticism isn't isolated. From comedians to critics, many jest or critique the idea of a conversational God. Lily Tomlin famously joked about the fine line perceived by society between prayer and madness when it comes to divine communication.
But let's delve deeper, Warriors. If our faith hinges on a personal relationship with the Almighty, could it thrive on silence from His end? Certainly not. A relationship devoid of dialogue is nothing but a facade. God does speak, and as His followers, our response should be to listen. This isn't a relic of the past; it is the essence of our journey with Him.
In many corners of our world, particularly where faith is less encumbered by cynicism, believers hear God daily and witness His power manifest through their obedience to His voice. While some may misuse or misunderstand His words, the overwhelming majority of testimonies reveal clear, fruitful communication from the Father. Yes, every person, regardless of their background or status, can learn to recognize and respond to His voice.
What, then, does He say? How does He speak to us? How can we discern His voice amidst the noise of life? These are vital questions we will explore. It is a lifelong journey to master the recognition of God's voice, but it is a journey filled with promise. He has pledged that if we seek Him earnestly, He will reveal Himself to us. If we listen, He will speak. And if we trust in His word, He will guide us deeper into His will, drawing us ever closer to His heart.
This journey isn't about following a rigid system or a set of steps. It's about positioning our hearts towards God and letting His Spirit stir within us. Over time, understanding His voice becomes intuitive, a natural reflection of our deepening relationship with Him.
Within the pages of this devotional, you will find 365 opportunities to tune into God's voice. Each day offers a new aspect of learning to hear Him, featuring both historical and contemporary narratives, including some from my own walk with God. Weekly, we'll engage directly with what God is speaking to our hearts.
Don't overlook the power of the prayers at the end of each devotion. They might seem simple, yet they are profound acts of faith. In asking, we receive. Persist in your prayer, and watch how God responds. Sometimes the answers are subtle, other times surprising, but always, they are exactly what we need.
