AB 1333: The Death of Self-Defense in California
TODAY’S FOCUS IS: How California’s AB 1333 Destroys Your Right to Protect Yourself
"When the strong arm of government punishes the innocent and protects the criminal, justice is dead." — Proverbs 17:15 (Paraphrased)
California’s AB 1333 is a direct assault on your God-given and constitutional right to self-defense. This law is not just misguided—it is un-American, unconstitutional, and outright dangerous to law-abiding citizens who seek to protect themselves, their families, and their communities.
If you are an individual—or even part of a church security team—and you or someone you are with faces imminent danger or the potential of death, and you take action to defend yourself, leading to the death of the assailant… YOU will go to jail for murder.
Yes, you read that right. In California, the criminal will be seen as the victim, and the true victim—the person fighting for their life—will be prosecuted.
Why AB 1333 Is a Direct Attack on Freedom and Safety
1. AB 1333 Is Un-American
The United States was founded on the belief that people have the right to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their property. AB 1333 undermines this fundamental value by requiring people to retreat rather than defend themselves.
It discourages self-reliance and personal responsibility.
It emboldens criminals by signaling that law-abiding citizens must flee rather than stand their ground.
It forces victims to depend on government protection that is often too little, too late.
2. AB 1333 Is Unconstitutional
The Second Amendment guarantees the right to bear arms—not just for sport or collecting, but for self-defense. By forcing people to retreat instead of protecting themselves, AB 1333 places unconstitutional restrictions on this right.
It shifts the burden of proof onto the victim rather than the criminal.
It eliminates the centuries-old doctrine of justifiable homicide in self-defense.
It endangers the safety of innocent civilians, making it nearly impossible to legally defend oneself in life-threatening situations.
3. AB 1333 Is Ungodly
God calls us to defend the innocent and resist evil. Scripture teaches that protecting oneself, one’s family, and one’s community is not just a right but a moral duty.
Nehemiah 4:14 – “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”
Luke 22:36 – Jesus told His disciples, “Let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.”
Exodus 22:2 – “If a thief is caught breaking in at night and is struck a fatal blow, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed.”
AB 1333 contradicts biblical principles, placing the safety of criminals above the lives of the innocent. No law that forces good people to stand down while evil prevails can be called righteous.
