A Letter from Apollos: Guiding Light to Faithful Fellowship

Encouragement and Wisdom for Preserving Unity and Truth in the Church

I hope this message finds you embracing the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ. My travels have brought me into the company of many believers, all fervently seeking the truth as we have received it from our Lord, delivered to us by the apostles and teachers among us. My journey now leads me to reach out to you, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, to encourage you in your faith and to discuss the matters of doctrine and living that so deeply affect our fellowship.

It has been some time since I left Ephesus, where I was taught by the wise Priscilla and Aquila. Under their guidance, and by the grace of God, I have grown in understanding and knowledge of the Scriptures. I remember the vibrant discussions and the deep, nightly studies that have shaped my ministry. These memories compel me to share with you the importance of steadfast adherence to the teachings we have received, guarding against the sway of false doctrines that seek to mislead and divide.

Paul, a mentor and towering figure in our faith, wrote extensively on the challenges faced by our assemblies, particularly warning against the subtle encroachments of error masked as deeper knowledge or hidden wisdom. Recall his letter to Timothy, where he emphasizes sound teaching and the preservation of the truth handed down to us (1 Timothy 1:3-4). As we navigate through these turbulent times, let us cling to this anchor, ensuring that our teaching remains pure and is rooted in the revelation of Christ.

Moreover, Paul instructs us on the organization and conduct within the church, highlighting the roles and qualifications of those who lead. This guidance is crucial as we strive to maintain order and holiness in worship, ensuring that our gatherings reflect the holiness and love of Christ. The unity and integrity of the church depend on leaders who are above reproach, devoted to the Lord, and committed to serving His people with humility and wisdom (1 Timothy 3:1-13).

The blending of diverse cultures and backgrounds within our communities, as seen in Ephesus, presents both a challenge and a rich opportunity. It teaches us that the gospel transcends all human barriers and unites us in a single divine purpose. We must embrace this diversity, allowing it to enrich our understanding and expression of faith, rather than letting it become a source of division.

In our worship and in our daily lives, let us be models of the grace we preach. Paul's exhortations to live a life worthy of the calling we have received (Ephesians 4:1) should resonate deeply within us. We are called to exhibit the fruits of the Spirit in all our interactions, demonstrating love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). These virtues strengthen our testimony and enhance our fellowship, drawing others to the truth we cherish.

As you gather, remember to encourage one another, building each other up in faith and good works. Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God (Colossians 3:16). Our gatherings should be a reflection of the heavenly assembly, marked by the presence of Christ among us.

In all things, let us be vigilant in prayer, steadfast in our devotion, and fervent in our love for one another. Let us be united in our pursuit of truth, always ready to defend the gospel and to offer ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—which is our true and proper worship (Romans 12:1).

I hold you all in my heart, praying continually for your strength and maturity in the faith. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers and sisters. Amen.

Yours in Christ,

Apollos
