25-094 Hearing God’s Voice Through Community

TODAY'S FOCUS IS: Recognizing God’s Voice Through Others

Today, we’re talking about something powerful—how God speaks to us through the people He places in our lives. We often think of hearing from God as a personal, private experience, but Scripture makes it clear: God also uses friends, mentors, pastors, and even unexpected strangers to sharpen us, guide us, and reveal His wisdom.

Our springboard for today’s discussion is: Proverbs 27:17 – “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”

When God wants to get our attention, He often does it through people. Think about Moses—he had Aaron to help him. Paul had Barnabas and Timothy. Even King David had Nathan the prophet, who wasn’t afraid to call him out when he went astray. God places people in our lives not just for companionship but for accountability, encouragement, and direction.

Maybe you've had a moment when a friend’s words struck you deeply—something they said confirmed exactly what you had been praying about. Or a sermon seemed tailor-made for your situation. These aren’t coincidences; they are divine appointments. But there’s a key here: we need to be open. If we’re too proud or isolated, we can miss the very people God is using to shape us.

Take a look at your circle. Who are the voices speaking into your life? Are they leading you closer to God or away from Him? Seek out those who challenge you, who hold you accountable, and who speak wisdom into your walk with Christ.

Question of the Day: Who in your life has God used to guide, encourage, or correct you? How did their words impact your journey?

Let’s Pray: Lord, open our hearts to hear Your voice through the people You’ve placed in our lives. Give us discernment to recognize wise counsel and humility to receive correction. Surround us with godly influences who sharpen us and draw us closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
