Pain is not something we seek, but it’s often the very thing that shapes us. Life’s hardships have a way of stripping away our illusions of control, forcing us to rely on something greater—someone greater. The Bible doesn’t tell us to avoid trials but to embrace them with joy, knowing they serve a divine purpose.
Our springboard for today’s discussion is: James 1:2-3 – "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness."
Just like gold is purified by fire, our faith is strengthened through adversity. Every difficulty we endure refines us, burning away impurities of doubt, pride, and self-reliance. Think about the great men and women of faith—Joseph was betrayed and imprisoned, David was hunted, Paul was beaten and imprisoned. Yet, their trials didn’t destroy them; they prepared them for greater things.
Pain isn’t pointless. It builds resilience, deepens our dependence on God, and transforms us into the image of Christ. When we stop asking, Why is this happening to me? and start asking, What is God doing in me through this?—that’s when growth happens.
Question of the Day: How has a past trial shaped your faith and character?
Let’s Pray: Lord, help us to see our trials through Your eyes. Refine us, strengthen us, and mold us into the people You’ve called us to be. Give us steadfast faith to endure and trust in Your perfect plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
