25-058 Knocking on Doors: When to Push Forward and When to Wait

TODAY’S FOCUS IS: Trusting God’s Timing in Every Opportunity

Today, we’re diving into a question every believer faces: When should we keep knocking, and when should we wait? Life presents us with many doors—opportunities, decisions, challenges—but how do we discern which ones to walk through and which ones require patience?

Our springboard for today’s discussion is: Matthew 7:7-8—"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."

Faith is not passive; it requires action. Jesus calls us to ask, seek, and knock. But He also calls us to trust His timing. Some doors open instantly, while others remain shut for a season. And then there are those that seem closed, but with persistent faith, they swing wide open at the right time.

Think of Paul in Acts 16. He and his companions tried to enter certain regions to preach the gospel, but the Holy Spirit prevented them. Instead of forcing their way through, they remained sensitive to God’s leading. Eventually, Paul had a vision directing them to Macedonia—a door God Himself opened.

How often do we get discouraged when a door doesn’t open immediately? Faith is both about stepping forward and knowing when to wait. Prayer is the key to discernment. If a door remains closed despite your efforts, ask God if it's a matter of timing or if He has another path. Sometimes, the answer isn’t "no" but "not yet."

Question of the Day: What is one door you’ve been knocking on, and how do you sense God leading you in it?

Let’s Pray: Lord, help us trust You with the doors before us. Give us discernment to know when to push forward and when to wait. Strengthen our faith to persist in prayer and follow Your leading. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
