John 10:27 - "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."
Have you ever stopped and wondered, Was that really God speaking to me, or was it just my own thoughts? It’s a question that has left many believers second-guessing and unsure. But Jesus didn’t intend for us to live in confusion. He spoke of a relationship where His sheep—His people—would hear His voice, recognize it, and follow Him.
Discerning God’s voice isn’t reserved for a spiritual elite. It’s the birthright of every believer. But here’s the key: like any relationship, it takes intentionality, trust, and practice. Think of it like tuning into a radio station. If you’re slightly off frequency, all you’ll hear is static. But when you’re dialed in, the voice comes through clearly. So how do we tune in?
First, it starts with Scripture. God’s Word is His primary means of communication. If you’re not familiar with His written Word, it’s hard to recognize His spoken Word. He never contradicts what He has already revealed in the Bible. Next, listen for the nudges of the Holy Spirit—those gentle promptings that align with God’s character and draw you closer to Him. Finally, seek confirmation. God often uses wise counsel, circumstances, and peace in your heart to affirm His message.
But let’s be real: there are distractions everywhere. Fear, doubt, and even busyness can drown out His voice. The enemy thrives on confusion, but God speaks with clarity and purpose. The more you prioritize time in prayer and quiet moments with Him, the easier it becomes to recognize His whisper amidst the noise.
Let’s Pray: Father, thank You for being a God who speaks. Help me to recognize Your voice above the noise of life. Teach me to trust Your guidance and follow Your lead without hesitation. Give me a heart that is still and ears that are open to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Now, Warrior, it’s time to sharpen your ears and spirit. God is speaking. The question is: Are you listening? Let’s get to work!
