"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." —Jeremiah 29:11
Brothers, let’s talk about the game plan—not your job’s 5-year plan, not your financial roadmap, and not even your strategy for your fantasy football league. Let’s talk about God’s game plan for your life.
Life comes at us fast. Work demands, family responsibilities, community involvement—they all pull at us, leaving little room to think about anything beyond just surviving the day. But here’s the hard truth: if you don’t align your life to God’s purpose, the distractions of the world will write the game plan for you.
Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that God has a plan for each of us—a plan that leads to hope, a future, and a life of meaning. But following that plan requires intentional effort. It’s not automatic, and it doesn’t happen by chance. We must actively realign our priorities, shed distractions, and adopt God’s strategy for victory.
The Need for a Divine Game Plan
Let’s be honest—life can feel overwhelming. Bills pile up, schedules get overloaded, and the expectations of those around us can feel crushing. It’s easy to lose sight of why we’re even doing all of this. Without a clear direction, we drift, and when we drift, we’re vulnerable to the enemy’s schemes.
Proverbs 19:21 warns us: "Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand." The world tells us to hustle harder, grind longer, and chase after success at all costs. But God’s game plan is different. It’s about building a life that reflects His glory, a life that invests in what truly matters—our faith, our families, and His Kingdom.
Realigning to God’s Purpose
1. Clarify Your Mission
“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).
At the core of every game plan is a mission. For us, the mission is clear: to know God, to grow in His likeness, and to lead others to Him. Everything else—career, hobbies, even ministry—must align with this ultimate purpose.
Ask yourself:
Is my life reflecting God’s Kingdom priorities?
Are my decisions helping me become the man God designed me to be?
2. Identify the Distractions
“Let us lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1).
Distractions are the enemy’s favorite tool. They don’t have to be bad things—they can be good things that take your focus off the best thing. Maybe it’s endless scrolling on your phone, an overpacked schedule, or chasing success at the expense of your family.
Your challenge:
Identify one distraction that’s pulling you away from God’s purpose. Write it down. Commit to reducing or eliminating it this week.
3. Adopt God’s Strategy
God doesn’t leave us to figure this out on our own. His Word is the ultimate playbook. Psalm 119:105 reminds us: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
Daily Connection: Spend time in prayer and Scripture every day. Start small if you need to, but make it non-negotiable.
Build Accountability: Surround yourself with brothers in Christ who will challenge and encourage you. Don’t try to go it alone.
Serve with Intention: Look for ways to serve your family and community that reflect God’s priorities. This might mean cutting back on personal ambitions to invest more time in those around you.
4. Lead Where You Are
"As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).
Leadership isn’t about a title or position—it’s about influence. Whether you’re leading a team at work, your children at home, or a small group at church, God calls you to lead with integrity and purpose.
Practical steps:
Start praying with your family daily.
Set aside time each week to connect with your spouse or children.
Be an example of Christlike leadership in your workplace.
The Cost of Ignoring the Plan
The stakes couldn’t be higher. When we live without a clear game plan, we not only waste the time and resources God has given us, but we also risk leading those entrusted to us astray. Our wives, our children, our coworkers—they’re all looking to us for direction. What message are we sending them?
Luke 14:28 reminds us: "For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?" Living without God’s game plan may seem easier in the short term, but the cost of regret and unfulfilled potential is far greater.
Your Challenge: Execute the Game Plan
Brother, it’s time to stop drifting. God has placed you here for a purpose, and the world desperately needs men who are willing to live intentionally for Him.
Reflection Questions:
What areas of your life need realignment with God’s purpose?
What distractions are holding you back, and how can you address them this week?
Who can you invite into your journey for accountability and encouragement?
Take time today to pray over these questions. Write down your answers. Share them with your brothers in Christ. And then take action. God’s game plan is waiting—you just need to step into it.
Your brother in Christ,
Matthew Adams
