23-275 Re-Tuning Our Spiritual Ears: The Journey to Hear God’s Voice Clearly

"Do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. . . . Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior." EPHESIANS 4:30-31

Just as we maintain our physical health to hear audibly, our spiritual health requires attention to hear God’s voice. Matthew Adams here, eager to share a crucial aspect of our walk with God – hearing His voice through the Holy Spirit and understanding the barriers that might be obstructing our spiritual hearing.

Scripture:

"Do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. . . . Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior." EPHESIANS 4:30-31

Within each believer, the Holy Spirit resonates, gently speaking God’s desires and will into our hearts. Yet, there are times we struggle to hear His guidance. The cause? It's often our own actions and attitudes that grieve the Spirit and cloud our spiritual hearing.

Driving Point 1: Understanding Our Spiritual Barriers

Our emotions and attitudes, like bitterness, rage, and anger, are spiritual barriers. They muffle the Holy Spirit’s voice. To better hear God, we must first address and relinquish these emotions, clearing the spiritual path to divine communication.

Driving Point 2: The Role of Words in Spiritual Hearing

It's said, "Words have power," and in the spiritual realm, this is truer than ever. When we engage in slander or utter harsh words, we're not just affecting our earthly relationships. Such actions grieve the Holy Spirit, and as a result, our ability to hear God diminishes.

Driving Point 3: The Relationship Between Spiritual Sensitivity and Hearing God

Our spiritual sensitivity is akin to the tuning dial on a radio. When correctly tuned, we can clearly hear God’s guidance. However, negative actions and emotions detune us. Our closeness to the Holy Spirit and responsiveness to His nudges determine the clarity of God’s voice in our lives.

Conclusion:

While God's undying love remains constant, our clarity in hearing Him can vary based on our actions and emotions. But there's hope. By recognizing and addressing what grieves the Holy Spirit, we can fine-tune our spiritual ears and deepen our connection.

Call to Action:

This week, let’s commit to spiritual self-awareness. Recognize moments that might grieve the Holy Spirit and seek restoration. Engage in prayer, and meditation, and dive deep into the Scriptures. Feel the difference as you clear away the barriers and embrace the voice of God.

Prayer:

Lord, Spirit of God, it burdens my heart to think I might've caused You grief. Today, I consciously let go of the burdens and barriers in my spirit. Restore our relationship, and let my heart be ever-sensitive to Your whispers. Make me a vessel that always seeks alignment with Your will. Amen.

Walking with God is a journey, one with valleys and peaks. In the moments when His voice seems distant, remember that the Spirit within is eager to guide us, awaiting our realignment. Here's Matthew Adams, reminding you to keep your spiritual ears tuned and your heart receptive. Stay connected and be blessed.
