23-233 Fasting: Tuning In to God’s Frequency

What’s up, family? Matthew Adams here. Today, let’s dig deep into a spiritual discipline that often feels outdated but is as powerful today as it was in Ezra's time. You guessed it - fasting. The art of turning down the volume of our physical desires to amplify God's voice in our lives.

Scripture: “I [Ezra] proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions.” EZRA 8:21, NKJV

Fasting isn't just about skipping meals. It’s about centering our spirit, setting aside distractions, and fully tuning in to God’s station. It’s about recalibrating our souls to the frequency of Heaven.

Point 1: A Shift in Focus.

Fasting, initially, makes us painfully aware of our physical desires. The growling stomach, the fading energy. But as we persevere, these reminders become alarm clocks, awakening our spirit to the real reason we're sacrificing: the desperate need to connect with God.

Point 2: A Declaration of Dependence.

In our fast-paced world, fasting is a radical move. It’s our living statement to the heavens saying, "God, we need You more than our next meal." We're not belittling our physical needs; instead, we’re elevating our spiritual needs above them.

Point 3: An Amplified Cry.

Our routines can numb us, making our prayers sound more like rehearsed lines than heart cries. Fasting shakes that up. In our hunger, every thought becomes a prayer, every moment an opportunity to seek God, and every pang of hunger an intensified cry to the heavens.

Conclusion:

Fasting isn't about hunger; it's about clarity. It’s about intentionally creating a space, a void, that only God can fill. In that space, we find not only our needs met but also a clearer channel to hear from God.

Call to Action:

Maybe it's time for a spiritual reset. Consider setting aside a day this week to fast and pray. It doesn't have to be a full day, maybe just a meal. But in that time, let hunger be your reminder, not of the meal you’re missing, but of the God you’re seeking.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with open hearts, ready to set aside our needs to lean into Yours. As we contemplate the discipline of fasting, equip us with a determination that outlasts hunger. Fill our spiritual voids as we carve them out for You. Let Your voice ring clear and loud. In Jesus' name, Amen.
