An angel of the Lord said to [Philip], “Go south down the desert road. . . .” So he started out, and he met the treasurer of Ethiopia. . . . The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.” Philip ran over and heard the man reading from the prophet Isaiah. . . . Beginning with this same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about Jesus. ACTS 8:26-27, 29-30, 35

Hey Warriors…we serve a God who speaks. He speaks to us through his Word, through the Holy Spirit, and through various modes that we might not even comprehend. God’s voice is powerful, and it’s our responsibility to tune in to hear his whisper.

The story of Philip and the Ethiopian traveler in Acts 8:26-35 illustrates how God speaks to us in various ways. Philip was carrying out his ministry in Samaria when an angel of the Lord gave him a command to go south down the desert road. And he followed obediently. On the way, the Holy Spirit spoke to him and prompted him to walk alongside the carriage of an Ethiopian traveler. The traveler was reading from the prophet Isaiah, and Philip used this opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus with him.

As we observe the different modes of God’s voice in this story, we can see that God speaks to us in different ways for a reason. He might use an angel to give us a clear and specific command, or he might speak to us through the Holy Spirit in a subtle and quiet manner. He might even use other people to convey his message to us.

But the question remains, are we tuning in to hear his voice? Are we seeking him with all our hearts, minds, and souls? Or are we too caught up in the distractions of this world to listen to his whispers?

The call to action for us today is to tune in to God’s voice. We need to spend time in prayer and in reading his Word. We need to be sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and be open to receiving messages from others that God might be using to speak to us. We need to have a heart that is willing to follow God’s commands, no matter how unexpected they may be.

So I leave you with these three follow-up questions to ponder upon:

  1. Are you taking the time to listen to God’s voice, or are you too busy with the distractions of this world?

  2. Are you willing to follow God’s commands, no matter how unexpected they may be?

  3. Are you open to receiving messages from others that God might be using to speak to you?

In conclusion, let us not underestimate the power of God’s whisper. He speaks to us in various ways for a reason, and it’s our responsibility to tune in and listen.

Let’s Pray…Father…may we have a heart that is willing to follow Your commands and a spirit that is open to receiving Your messages. Father God…bless us all as we seek to hear Your voice and follow Your ways. Amen.
