Welcome back to the Power of God’s Whisper podcast. I’m your host, and today we’re going to talk about the importance of having the right attitude when we speak the truth. It’s easy to get caught up in proving a point, but sometimes we forget that the spirit behind our words is just as important as the message itself.
Let me share with you a story about a student at a Bible college who was scheduled to deliver a chapel message. She had prepared a powerful message, full of scriptural evidence, to refute false teaching. However, the night before her presentation, she couldn’t sleep. God spoke to her spirit and told her not to preach that message. He said that although her beliefs were right, she was arguing her points from the wrong spirit. She wasn’t speaking in love.
Disappointed, she gave an entirely different message about love. Later, she realized that her planned message would have been abrasive and alienating. She was grateful for God’s redirection, which spared her from an argument she might have won but lost her audience.
Similarly, the slave girl who followed Paul and Silas in Philippi spoke the truth about these men but was filled with an agitating demonic spirit. Her contentiousness, strife, pride, bitterness, and obsession with proving a point caused her to speak the right words while not representing God’s heart.
Sometimes, we focus so much on the message that we forget the spirit behind it. We must remember that just as important as what we say to others or hear from God are the emotional and spiritual filters through which we say or hear it. Our attitude and spirit can cause us to speak the right words while not representing God’s heart.
So, when we bring our perspectives to God, He shapes them to reflect not only His truth but also His heart. We need to listen to His voice and allow Him to transform our attitudes and hearts. We need to remember that the spirit behind our words is just as important as the message itself.

Let’s Pray…Holy Spirit, give me that kind of sensitivity to Your voice —not only to know Your truth but to know the heart behind it. Help me to believe and discuss what is right and to saturate my words with the right spirit.
